Claude 3.5 Sonnet vs. ChatGPT is a fun conversation, but we wonder whether it’s really necessary to choose between the two.
Advancements in language models continue to redefine our interaction with technology. Among the most prominent AI models are ChatGPT and Claude. They each offer unique capabilities and features that cater to diverse needs.
Claude 3.5 Sonnet is the latest iteration of a powerful AI language model developed by Anthropic. They assert it “raises the industry bar for intelligence” and outperforms competitor models.
On paper, it certainly appears to be the new top model.
How Claude 3.5 Sonnet Stacks Up

According to Anthropic, “Claude 3.5 Sonnet sets new industry benchmarks for graduate-level reasoning (GPQA), undergraduate-level knowledge (MMLU), and coding proficiency (HumanEval).
“It shows marked improvement in grasping nuance, humour, and complex instructions, and is exceptional at writing high-quality content with a natural, relatable tone.”
Part of the launch includes new Artifacts on Claude.ai. This a new feature that expands how users can interact with Claude.
For example, when a user asks Claude to generate content like code snippets, text documents, or website designs, Artifacts appear in a dedicated window alongside their conversation.
“This creates a dynamic workspace where they can see, edit, and build upon Claude’s creations in real-time, seamlessly integrating AI-generated content into their projects and workflows.”
This preview feature also marks Claude’s evolution from a conversational AI tool to a collaborative work environment, and eventually, entire organizations will be able to securely centralize their knowledge, documents, and ongoing work in one shared space.
Very nice, we look forward to checking that out.

- Contextual Understanding. With improved contextual understanding, Claude 3.5 Sonnet can generate more accurate and relevant responses, even in complex conversational scenarios.
- Fine-Tuning Capabilities. Users can fine-tune Claude 3.5 Sonnet to better suit specific tasks, allowing for customization based on unique requirements.
And here are the key features of ChatGPT, as refresher:
- Interactive Conversations. ChatGPT excels in generating conversational responses that are engaging and contextually appropriate. So, it’s an excellent choice for customer support and virtual assistants.
- Creative Content Generation. The model is adept at producing creative and imaginative content, making it popular among writers and marketers for brainstorming ideas and drafting content.
- Wide Range of Applications. From answering questions and providing recommendations to creating content and performing data analysis, ChatGPT’s versatility makes it suitable for a broad spectrum of applications.
In using both, it’s clear that you don’t really have to choose between one or the other because both models have their respective advantages and disadvantages. It’s good practice to play one off the other.
Claude 3.5 Sonnet vs. ChatGPT: Why choose?
If you give them both the same prompt, you’ll probably like some part of Claude’s answers better than ChatGPT — and vice versa. So, using both models is better than using one.
You can get responses from each model and combine the best parts to get an enhanced response.
As a reminder, we recently launched our AI Playground, where you can compare the quality and output of different models.
With the AI Playground, you can leverage the power of LLMs to analyze, annotate, or generate data in bulk, rendering your data processing tasks more efficient and effective.
