Translation Memory Alignment

Working with one language service provider is highly recommended and beneficial, but not always possible. If your company has already worked with a language service provider but needs a new one for another project, you can still use the previously translated materials, even if they’re not available in a translation memory format. Summa Linguae Technologies offers translation alignment to use the existing multilingual content.

What are translation alignment and translation memory (TM)?

The process of alignment is based on matching the source material (for example in English) with its translated counterpart (for example Spanish). This means you can create a translation memory database dedicated to your business or a specific project easily, without building the TM from scratch.

A translation memory is a database of already translated segments of text, paired with their source counterparts. The segments are reused so you don’t have to translate the same sentences or terms more than once.

A TM is invaluable when translating and localizing great volumes of content. It makes the process much faster and cheaper while ensuring quality. A term or sentence once translated doesn’t need to be translated again – it will be automatically substituted in a new document.

Such a process preserves the linguistic consistency of corporate documents across platforms and versions. This proves invaluable in translating content that includes many repetitions like technical specifications, financial statements and much more.
